00:01:19
Hello, welcome back to another episode. What a week it has been or even here in this neck of the woods.
00:01:28
Uhm, yesterday I made a huge decision in the business, which I'm.
00:01:35
Really, really, really.
00:01:36
Excited for and it kind of, you know, I don't really like this terminology, 'cause I don't really.
00:01:42
No, you know it's just not my take on things, but I had you know something drop into me and and it was the first time.
00:01:52
So I you've heard me talk about our human design before and I am a what they call splenic projector. So for me, my instinct, you know those that feeling that you get.
00:02:02
Flight or flight, like those instinct of like knowing exactly what to do well, it's one of the only ones in human design.
00:02:09
If not, the only one, I think that when you get that where you know something just comes to and you know instantly.
00:02:17
Where it is actually OK to make a decision in the moment you don't need to go away and think about it.
00:02:21
Unlike some of the other designs in human design, and so that happened for me yesterday, and I had this moment of like Oh my God.
00:02:29
I need to do this and in the past I would have sat on this and I would have thought about it and I would have probably over thought about it, but I decided to just go with that.
00:02:37
And I'm really, really excited and I can't wait to share that with you. It's not something that I'm going to share today.
00:02:45
It is still in development. There still needs to be some clarity around a few things, but it is going to mean that things are changing and.
00:02:55
I'm really excited.
00:02:56
For that I'm really, really excited for that. It does come with some nerves and some shedding of some beliefs that I need to get rid.
00:03:06
Of you know.
00:03:07
There's a part of me that with this change.
00:03:12
Is almost going back to who I was as a child and as a teenager, and that's scary because, you know, sometimes we've been told that that wasn't OK, or that we had to change or whatever it was and.
00:03:26
And yeah, I'm working towards that, and so I'm really, really excited to share more of that as we go along, and that journey and what it will mean for you and what this space will look like. And all of the things because.
00:03:38
It's going to be exciting. I'm really, really, really excited and on that note. One of the other changes. That's happening at the moment, which is more in my personal life is that Ivy will be staying home with me for the next 6 months, so she is 3 and a bit, for 3 and a half and she will be going to Cyndy next year.
00:03:57
Which means I've really.
00:03:58
Only got the next six months with her. She does go to three-year old kidney so she goes for one day a week.
00:04:05
But I've really only got the next six months and so I decided to spend that with her, which means the way that I run my business is going to look different and I'm really excited to go on this journey of running my business with a small child at home. You know, four days out of well.
00:04:25
Technically, six days out of the seven and and on her you know school day. It's a very, very short day. I really don't think it about four hours to myself.
00:04:34
Uhm, so really full time with me and how I'm going to run the business and I'm.
00:04:38
Just really really.
00:04:40
Excited to see what that looks like and then share those learnings with you because.
00:04:45
You know, maybe you've got kids. Maybe you don't have kids, and for those of you
00:04:48
That do have.
00:04:49
Kids, I want to show you what's possible to run an online business with your kids at home. You know with less time than your traditional jobs and you know there is definitely still some version.
00:05:04
Of hustle, but the hustle is different. It is about working smarter and not just long hours or huh.
00:05:11
And I'm going to start sharing that with you. Once you know I get deep into it and what it looks like.
00:05:16
And for those of you that don't have kids, I hope that you know if that is your plan and maybe it's not. That's totally cool.
00:05:23
But if it is your plan that you can also see that it's still possible, right? Like you don't have to give up or your business doesn't have to change.
00:05:30
Just because you're having kids, and so I'm really, really excited to see what that journey looks like and.
00:05:38
There's so many things that come with that. For those of you that have kids, you know it is definitely come.
00:05:44
It's different having them home full time, so we'll see. We will see. But Speaking of having kids and parenting, that is kind of what this episode is going to be about.
00:05:57
And so it's not about parenting for those of.
00:05:59
You that are.
00:06:00
Like oh, what?
00:06:02
It links into this because.
00:06:04
I have been having a lot of conversations recently with a lot of my client.
00:06:08
They are. How do you know what advice to listen to?
00:06:11
Right there is so.
00:06:12
Oh much advice out there and there is so much support out there when it comes to. You know, having an online business, whether it is a coaching business, whether it's a service business, whatever it is there is so much advice and support out there of different ways that you can tackle things right. And none of this advice is right versus wrong.
00:06:33
It just is. It's just different types of advice and you have to take with it or you've got to take from it what is.
00:06:38
Right for you?
00:06:40
But how do you decide? How do you know what is right for you right? And so I want to talk you through some of these.
00:06:48
You know the way that I look at how to take advice from somebody and also maybe changing some beliefs that you've previously had around how to choose the best support and advice for you, because I think it's really, really important that we know how to do that. And so the first thing you know going back to that whole linking of parenting.
00:07:08
For those of you that our parents and those of you then hunt, this is my $0.02 worth of advice for parenting.
00:07:15
When you get into it, everybody wants to give you advice right every single person that I had a baby or is apparent, even if their children are, you know, grown wants to give you advice for.
00:07:26
For pregnancy, for labour, for parenting, for all of the things, and I learned really early on that the way that I was going to do it was that I was going to pick two people that I was going to take advice from.
00:07:40
One of those was somebody in my circle that was, like, you know, in real life that I could actually have the conversation with.
00:07:46
And the other was, you know, deemed professional somebody that either had a book or online or whatever it was.
00:07:51
And that's who I was going to take.
00:07:53
My advice from everybody.
00:07:54
Else could tell me things, but I wasn't necessarily going to listen to them, and I think it's really, really important that we do the same in this space.
00:08:04
So if you decide to work with a business coach, let's just say right and you sign up to their programme, that's amazing, but work.
00:08:11
Often happens and I hear this all the time from people is that they'll be in a programme and then they'll see somebody else that they really admire.
00:08:17
Give the opposite advice and like I said, none of this is right versus wrong, right? It's just different advice.
00:08:25
But my suggestion to you is, once you're in a programme, or even if you're not in a programme, pick one person or two people and follow only that advice.
00:08:36
Do not go around and just pick and choose all of the pieces that work from different people and I'll tell you why, because as much as that in theory seems like a really, really good.
00:08:45
Idea like just listen to everybody and then take all of the things that you need.
00:08:49
Normally, when a coach is giving you a strategy, there are multiple pieces to that puzzle, and if you were just listening to certain pieces of that puzzle, you don't actually have the full picture.
00:09:00
And so then, if you're just you know, plucking little pieces out, it's not going to get you the results that you want, and so.
00:09:09
To quiet in that noise that you see online and to stop you feeling so overwhelmed with like. How do I choose what do I do and feeling really confused by it all.
00:09:23
Decide on.
00:09:24
Decide one or two people, and obviously if you're on social media, you can follow tonnes of people right? But it's about actually implementing that advice or really listening to them.
00:09:33
Like, let's for example, look at parenting and let's look at sleep. There are million different concepts to get your kids to sleep. Literally a million, and if you.
00:09:43
Tried to listen.
00:09:43
To the whole, you'd be really confused.
00:09:45
'cause some would say let them cry, some would say don't let them cry. Some would say you know do it gently. Some would say like there's a million different things and so it's about going.
00:09:54
This is what I feel works for me and not only is it the strategy that you have to resonate with, you have to resonate with the person and.
00:10:02
You have to.
00:10:03
Really, really feel like there's a connexion and that your business is aligned to the strategy that they are giving you, and this kind of goes into the next point.
00:10:14
About you know coaches and how to choose what advice is right.
00:10:20
For you because.
00:10:22
I was having a conversation recently with some peers and there is a conversation going around and that happens. You know all the time about coaches that will share their money goals or or like what they're earning and say you know I made X amount and so I want to help you get there. And then there's the.
00:10:42
Flip side of that argument, which is well if you didn't share that with me, would I still want to work with you?
00:10:48
And this is my take on it right now.
00:10:53
If you're running a business at the crux of it, you need to make money right? So there is absolutely that baseline and we need to know that we need to assume that all business closures are actually helping you to make money. OK, because if they're not, then really they probably don't understand business.
00:11:12
OK, but this is the thing.
00:11:16
Not all coaches actually have the same business model and not all business coaches actually want to have our business.
00:11:25
That is, making either multiple 6 figures or either you know multiple millions and I really want to preface this by the way before I go any further. That you're probably like.
00:11:35
Well, is this what you're like is this? Are you saying this?
00:11:38
From your advice.
00:11:39
Because you don't want to be this type of business or whatever I am. This is actually probably one of the most neutral episodes I've done, and I just really want to give you an insight.
00:11:48
Onto both sides, right?
00:11:50
Because and maybe I'll be really honest with you. I do want to be up there and I am going to be out there with the.
00:11:55
Multiple 7 figure businesses but.
00:12:00
But here's the thing that I really, really need you to know. Some of the best coaches in the world, and let's step outside of business.
00:12:09
Searching 'cause this doesn't happen in business coaching and I really think this is where there's a huge error and misconception in the coaching world, right in the business coaching world or the online coaching world, let's step outside of that. Some of the world best and greatest coaches are the world worst players.
00:12:29
OK, I'm going to give you some examples. For those of you that have watched or heard of of Dance Moms.
00:12:36
The dance coach Abby Lee Miller is a larger woman completely fine, but she doesn't necessarily dance herself, but she is.
00:12:45
Some were deemed America's best dance coach because she knows how to get the best out of her dancers. She knows how to give them corrections that somebody else.
00:12:56
Doesn't know what to say or do or how to get that out of them.
00:13:00
OK, but she did not have to be the best dancer in order.
00:13:04
To be the best.
00:13:04
Coach, another example example is Sir Alex Ferguson.
00:13:09
For those of you that don't know, he would probably be deemed well, you know, definitely. According to my husband, because he is a Manchester United fan, but one of the world greatest soccer coaches of.
00:13:20
Time and he was a pretty average player, but he honestly like from what? And I've done a little bit of research on him.
00:13:28
I'm not really a big soccer.
00:13:29
Fan, but you could just Google him. Sir Alex Ferguson and the amount of people that would talk and say that he was one of the world greatest soccer coaches is incredible.
00:13:41
Yeah, he was a really bloody average player. Another example for those of you that are closer to home with AFL.
00:13:47
You've probably heard of Mould house he you know. Again, he probably isn't the best coach in the world, but he has gotten 3 premierships with two different clubs all across two different clubs and was definitely an average player.
00:14:01
Because these players that you do not have to be the best of the best of the player in order to be the best coach because they require very different skills in order to get the best out of as a coach out of somebody.
00:14:17
There it requires completely different skills in order to get that for somebody right. In order to actually be the best player, the completely different skill set.
00:14:27
Look at David Beckham, for example, right? He would be, you know, I don't know a lot about soccer. Obviously he's quite good looking, so This is why I'm gonna choose him.
00:14:35
But he would be deemed one of the best soccer players, but he's never.
00:14:39
Become a coach.
00:14:41
Why? Why is he never become a coach now obviously don't.
00:14:44
Know him but.
00:14:45
One would assume it's.
00:14:46
Because he doesn't.
00:14:46
Actually want to coach A&B.
00:14:49
It prop, the really doesn't have any night. You know, knowing or know how to coach because he's actually.
00:14:55
A player and in this online coaching space in this online world we have associated business success to being the best coach.
00:15:08
And that is.
00:15:09
So not the case because you want a coach that's going to get you the best results you if you are following somebody and it's so hard, right?
00:15:20
Because some business coaches have become the best business coaches that I know because they have had other successful businesses, right? And that.
00:15:28
Is incredible and.
00:15:30
There is a lot to be said for that as well, right? A huge amount, but those people that are doing that they were actually always coaches.
00:15:37
They were always coaches. They were born a coach and they were supposed to coach. It was just their journey in their path.
00:15:44
That meant they happen to have that business initially to get them where they are, right? But not everybody.
00:15:51
Has the skill set to be a coach and to get the best for you the best out of you, right?
00:15:56
And give you the best advice and support and so when deciding this, when you are making a decision for.
00:16:04
You know anybody, anybody to work with? This is not just about online coaching, right? This is anybody like? Like I said, going back to the parenting, if you're looking for the best sleep specialist right just because their kids sleep through the night does not mean that they are going to be the.
00:16:20
Best sweep coach.
00:16:23
You have to.
00:16:24
Look for the person that is actually the best teacher, the best coach.
00:16:29
Right prime example. You know you will have experience in your life going to either primary school or high school.
00:16:36
Some of the best.
00:16:37
Teachers the teachers that got the best result I can guarantee you they weren't the best student when they were at school. They weren't, you know. Ducts of the year because that teaching skill that coaching skill.
00:16:50
It's completely different to the best player.
00:16:54
And so I want you.
00:16:54
To know that going in and trying to make a decision. And yes, I absolutely still think it's valid.
00:17:00
For people to share.
00:17:01
Their income, goals, and what they're making, and I am, you know, I've done that before myself and I am would still do that.
00:17:08
But it's not.
00:17:09
The the reason to make a decision to.
00:17:11
Go with somebody because.
00:17:15
Prime example is that if you were to go with somebody, let's just say, you know, let's just go David Beckham for example.
00:17:22
What would likely happen is that if he said I'm going to coach, right? And let's just assume that he's a sheet coach because we don't know enough about him, right?
00:17:30
But let's just say he's going to put a coaching programme out there. There would be hundreds of millions of people that want to go and coach with him, right?
00:17:36
They're like, Oh my God, he is the best player in the entire world. I wanna go and work with him.
00:17:41
But if he doesn't actually have the skills.
00:17:43
Because he's not an A coach, that's not his skill set. He's a player. Then what's going to happen is those people are going to go into his programme and not get the result.
00:17:54
That either they want, or another coach could get them, or whatever it is, and likely over time, we'll probably close that down.
00:18:01
Because he's not enjoying it because he's not getting the results and whatever.
00:18:05
And you'll see this in the industry. You will see people become coaches who have had really successful businesses and they'll close it down because it's actually just not who they are. It's not what they want to do.
00:18:14
They want to do something else. They don't want a coach as a business coach or get you results or results coach.
00:18:20
Whatever it is, right?
00:18:21
Yep, so I really, really hope that.
00:18:25
This has given you a different way to look at who to take advice from, whether it is business coaching, whether it is parenting advice, you know, whether it's playing a sport like whatever it is, I just, I hope that you can look at it from a place of who has the best and this is where it comes to results, right and not.
00:18:45
The individuals results, but their clients result.
00:18:49
Who is sharing incredible case studies of client results and not just testimonials? Because testimonials is just, you know, normally a feedback form that somebody submitted and given you know a testimonial on but like a case study you know where are people showing you or sharing with you the transformation that people have really, truly.
00:19:09
Add because that's where the result lies. That's way more important for you to see and understand. Then them saying that they've scaled their own business to X amount. It's so critical that you can see other people success, not just the coaches success.
00:19:29
I'm going to leave that there.
00:19:31
I really, really hope that it's given you food for thought and I always think about this when I'm choosing my coach.
00:19:38
I personally for me I look at the areas that I am weak in and that's what I get my coach for. I don't necessarily go for overarching coaches because.
00:19:48
That's just not where I'm at in my journey, so that then means to me that nine times out of 10, it's actually never a like I earned this much in my business, and so that's the coach that I'm going to go for. It's really, really specific things, like maybe it's a communication coach. Or, you know.
00:20:04
Whatever it is.
00:20:06
So you know that's another way as well, like when you are looking for a quote. Is it an?
00:20:10
Overarching business coach.
00:20:12
Or whatever coach it is that you're looking for? Or is it something really super specific that you actually need support with?
00:20:19
Like yeah, maybe it's you know, public speaking I don't know, but choosing the coach that you need is.
00:20:28
More important than them sharing their results of their own business, right them sharing the results of their customers and their clients.
00:20:37
That's important, but their own results neither here nor there. So hopefully this has given you some food for thought, some insights, and I would love for you to share with me.
